What is Priligy?

Priligy contains the active ingredient Dapoxetine, which is part of the SSRI family (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Dapoxetine is used to treat premature ejaculation.

How do Priligy tablets work?

If you “last” under 2 minutes, Priligy can double or even triple the length of time before ejaculation. Ejaculation is a reflex, however, it can be controlled by the brain. Dapoxetine increases serotonin levels which increase nerve signal transmission, allowing the brain more control over the ejaculation reflex.

Dapoxetine in Priligy has a shorter half-life than many of the SSRIs used to treat depression and anxiety, which means its effect on the body is only temporary (lasting between 4 and 24 hours).

However, it is still a good idea to discuss with your doctor what issues might be causing your premature ejaculation. Often, these are psychological issues. Nervousness or anxiety associated with a new sexual experience or partner can result in premature ejaculation. Sometimes, just using Priligy can provide reassurance and may restore normal functioning of the penis; treatment may help this support process. In other cases, the causes of PE might be physical, such as a hormonal imbalance or hypersensitivity of the penis. Medical treatment, in combination with a number of techniques to slow and control ejaculation (squeeze technique or start and stop method), can relieve the underlying physical causes of PE.

How can I tell whether I have bought original Priligy tablets?

Every pack of Priligy has a 12 digit serial number written on the side of the packaging. The manufacturer Janssen provides a free tool for checking the status of your medication - just type in the serial number of your pack on their Priligy verification website.

When should I take Dapoxetine?

You should take Dapoxetine between one and two hours before intercourse. The effects of Dapoxetine are likely to wear off within 4 to 24 hours.

Can I drink alcohol whilst taking Dapoxetine?

No. You should not drink as this will worsen any side effects, particularly those involving fainting and light headedness.

Is Priligy suitable for everyone?

Dapoxetine is suitable for men between 18 and 64 years old. You should not take Dapoxetine if you are on certain medications, and you should only start taking Dapoxetine 14 days after you have stopped taking these other medications. Consult the list in the warnings section to see if Dapoxetine is suitable for you.

How do I take Priligy tablets?

Dapoxetine should be taken once a day only. The correct dosage for you can be prescribed by DrEd online and will depend on the severity of your problem and your medical history. Dapoxetine is taken orally and may be taken with or without food. You should take Dapoxetine with a full glass of water to reduce the risk of fainting. There are no special requirements for storage, but just check that your tablets are still in date before taking them.

What happens if I take more Priligy than recommended?

This will not increase the duration of the effect. However, it will increase the severity of your side effects and may well put your health in danger. Do not increase your dosage without consulting your doctor first.

Do I need a prescription?

No, you can get your treatment online with DrEd.

Where can I buy Priligy?

You can buy Dapoxetine from DrEd after your online consultation if the treatment is suitable for you.

What other brands and medicines are there like Dapoxetine?

Anafranil (containing clomipramine), Prozac (containing fluoxetine) and Lustral (containing sertraline) work in similar ways to Dapoxetine and are all SSRIs. PREXIL is a potent herbal blend which can delay ejaculation. Prozac are pills which you can buy without prescription: however, these are likely to be a lot less effective than Dapoxetine.

How effective is Priligy?

Dapoxetine is possibly the most effective treatment available for PE. Across studies, Dapoxetine has been found to increase the time you can “last” by 2 to 3 times.

What should my dosage be?

The typical dose is Dapoxetine 30mg. Dapoxetine should be taken as required, 1 to 3 hours before intercourse with a full glass of water. It is important that you do not take more than one tablet over a 24 hour period.

If the 30mg dosage isn’t as effective as it should be, consult your doctor: they may be able to increase your dosage to 60mg. Even if you are happy with your treatment, it’s advisable that you see your doctor about your PE and medication a month into your treatment, and from then on every six months.

If the treatment isn’t working, can I take more?

No. You should not be taking more than one tablet a day. If you don’t think the treatment is as effective as it should be, then consult your doctor, who may be able to increase your dosage.

What is in a Priligy tablet?

Dapoxetine is the active ingredient in Dapoxetine. The tablets also contain lactose, so consult your doctor if you are allergic/lactose intolerant. Dapoxetine also contains microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, silica - colloidal anhydrous, magnesium stearate hypromellose, titanium dioxide, iron oxide black and iron oxide yellow.

What do Priligy tablets look like?

Priligy tablets are light grey, round and convex. The dosage will also be marked on the tablets within a triangle. Legitimate tablets will always look like this; it’s important that you do not take Dapoxetine tablets bought online without a prescription first. Sites which sell their products so freely without prescription are likely to be unregulated: taking products bought from such sites could be dangerous to your health.

Priligy Side Effects

Many patients will experience only very mild side effects. However, if you experience any of the following severe side effects, consult your doctor immediately and stop taking the medication:

  • Fits/seizures
  • Feeling faint or light headed when you stand
  • Mood changes
  • Suicidal thoughts/thoughts of self-harm

To avoid low blood pressure or fainting when standing, take the following precautions:

  • Take Dapoxetine with a full glass of water
  • Do not take Dapoxetine when you are dehydrated (if you have not drunk for 4 to 6 hours, have a high temperature, have been sweating a lot, have diarrhoea or have been sick)

If you do feel faint whilst taking Dapoxetine, consult your doctor. In the meantime, avoid standing up too quickly and lie down so that your head is lower than the rest of your body. This will ensure that your brain receives enough blood and will reduce fainting risk.

You should not work machinery or drive if you feel faint whilst taking Dapoxetine.

Around 10% of users will feel sick, have a headache or feel dizzy.

Some less common side effects include:

  • Irritation, anxiety or agitation
  • ‘Pins and needles’ or numbness
  • Difficulty getting/keeping an erection
  • Excessive sweating or flushing
  • Diarrhoea, constipation or having wind
  • Stomach pain, bloating or being sick
  • Difficulty sleeping or strange dreams
  • Feeling tired or sleepy
  • Nasal congestion
  • Blood pressure rise
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Shaking or trembling
  • Decreased libido
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Blurred vision
  • Indigestion
  • Dry mouth

You should tell your doctor if you experience any of the side effects above, or if you experience any new issues which you think might be related to your medication.

Other medications, whether prescriptive or herbal, can affect the action of Dapoxetine or worsen any side effects. It is important that your doctor knows your medical history and what medicines you have taken/are taking. This may affect if you can take Dapoxetine at all, or the maximum dosage you can take.

Do not take Priligy if you have:

  • Heart problems
  • Moderate to severe liver problems

You should not take Dapoxetine if you are on the following medications:

Since the main ingredient is an SSRI and this family is used to treat anxiety and depression.

You must not use Dapoxetine if you are taking medicines for anxiety and depression including:

  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors’ (MAOIs)
  • Nefazodone
  • Tryptophan: medicine to help you sleep
  • St John’s wort: herbal medicine

You must not use Dapoxetine if you are taking the following treatments for other issues:

  • Thioridazine used for schizophrenia
  • Any other medicine containing Dapoxetine
  • Lithium: medicine for bipolar disorder
  • Linezolid: antibiotic used to treat infections
  • Tramadol: to treat serious pain
  • Medicines used to treat migraines
  • Certain medicines for HIV, including ritonavir, saquinavir, nelfinavir and atazanavir
  • Certain antibiotics for treating infection, including telithromycin

You should wait at least 14 days between ending one of the above treatments and starting your PE treatment with Dapoxetine. Similarly, you should wait 7 days between ending your Dapoxetine treatment and starting one of the treatments above. If you are unsure of what to do, your doctor can help clarify your treatment plans for you.

Your doctor should be aware that you are taking the following medications:

  • Medicines for mental health problems other than depression
  • Non−steroidal anti−inflammatory medicines (ibuprofen or aspirin)
  • Medicines to thin your blood (warfarin)
  • Certain medicines used to treat erectile dysfunction, such as sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil (Viagra, Cialis or Levitra respectively, as these medicines may lower your blood pressure on standing)
  • Certain medicines used to treat high blood pressure and angina (such as verapamil and diltiazem), or enlarged prostate, as these medicines may also lower your blood pressure, possibly upon standing
  • Certain medicines for fungal infection, such as fluconazole, ketoconazole and itraconazole
  • Certain other medicines for HIV, such as amprenavir and fosamprenavir
  • Certain other antibiotics for treating infection, such as erythromycin and clarithromycin
  • Aprepitant: nausea treatment

Dapoxetine should not be taken by women under any circumstance.

If you experience side effects of feeling sleepy, faint or dizzy and if you have blurred vision and difficulty concentrating whilst taking Dapoxetine, do not drive or operate heavy machinery.
